Sisters combine for a top 5 finish!
This week, Grainne Pendlebury and Sarah Riding went off to play in the British Seniors Brenda King Foursomes. The two day event was played at a Brough Golf Club in Yorkshire. The event attracted 36 teams from all around the country. There were some top players in the field that included Penny Grice-Whittaker a former winner Womans British Open. The sisters held their own over the two rounds and put in a brilliant performance finishing in 5th place with a gross score of 163. Overall winners were 2 & 3 handicappers Betty Sworowski and Julie Wheeldon who came in with 156. To be just 7 shots off the winning score over 36 holes is a fantastic result! Well done ladies we are all proud of you!

Scott Scoular has continued his fine form this week and followed up his Andrew Duckworth win with yet another board prize. This one needed a little more work as it took an 18-hole playoff to split the top 4 of the Centenary Plates competition. On Sunday Scott took on and beat Sean Wooff, Tim and Ed Cooper. I believe it was close fought match to the end but Scott just edged it.
Although Tim and Ed missed out for the Centenary Plates they did have reason to celebrate as they were victorious in the Fer-rets Foursomes prize that they played in the day prior. They combined well in this alternate shot game that nearly didn’t hap-pen. I thought this competition was going to go the same way as last week’s Summer Medal 8 as we had heavy rain in the morn-ing. Fortunately it blew through and we could start play although we had a 30 min delay. This weekend sees the Summer Medal 8 replay. This is the final chance for golfers to qualify for the final and get the needed points for the Barlow Andrews Order of Merit.

Bolton GC is the home course for Bolton Schools golf team fixtures. On Wednesday 12th September they took on a team from The Sedburgh School in the Lake Discrict. It was the first round of the ISGA matchplay competition. The three man team consisted of two Bolton members, Toby Yates and Sean Dobson. Well great news as the team won 3-0 with results of 9&8, 8&7 and 7&6. Well done lads and good luck in the next round.

On Sunday there was a battle between the boys and girls at the club. It was the annual County Boys V the County Girls at the golf club and there was some great golf on show. It was a close game but the boys just came through to take the victory. We received a lovely letter from the Lancashire Secretary, Phil Harvey thanking us for the hospitality.
"Bolton Golf Club went out of their way to ensure that everything ran smoothly. The course was a credit to the green staff and particular thanks go to yourself (Darryl) and Jon who looked after us magnificently in the clubhouse."
Bolton Golf Club is extremely proud to host county events. The Gents County Championshps were played at the club in 2015 with the Ladies playing their County Championships in 2017.
