Andrew awarded an MBE
Queens 2019 Honours Award
Bolton golf club member Andrew Dickson has been appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire, the MBE, in the Queens 2019 New Years Honours list. He has been a member of the club for over 15 years and has served on council for 2 years as Chairman of marketing and recently also responsible for membership. The award has been made for his outstanding contribution to business in Bolton and services to the wider Bolton Community and the Quality of Public Life. He was one of the founders of 96.5 Bolton FM the local community radio station and has helped run the station with over 100 volunteers for over 9 years as Chairman. He also founded the travel agents St Andrews Travel in 1983 and ran it for 25 years. At its peak, they employed 75 staff and had a turnover in excess of £25 million and were the largest North West independent travel agent.
In 2018 96.5 Bolton FM was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service-the MBE for groups, and Andrew and his wife Pat attended Buckingham Palace and had afternoon tea with HRH The Queen.
Andrew was awarded an honorary doctorate from The University of Bolton for his contribution to business in Bolton. He has also been awarded by Bolton Council the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for services to the town.
Andrew said, “I am absolutely thrilled to receive this award and I will never forget, I’ve only achieved what I’ve achieved in life, due to the fantastic team of people around me throughout my working and voluntary career.”
